Foundation
The Kalimati Clinic is run by Nepal International Health Research and
Social Welfare Organizatin(NIHRSWO) as a charitable clinic.
NIHRSWO was founded by Dr Arjun Raj Pant, Mr Ram Chandra Pant and
Dr Indira Satyal. These individuals have witnessed grass root
level health problems facing Nepal and particularly the
inccessibility of health care to the large rural population. The
NIHRSWO has been registered by the Kathmandu District
Administrative Office (Registered. No.: 365/053/054) and is also
accociated with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal (Registered
No.: 5100). The organization currently has seven members. The
initial project centre is in Tanahun, Chowk Chisapani VDC. The
village is in Tanahun District 140 km north west from Kathmandu.
Kalimati Clinic was established in 2002 in collaboration between
American and Nepalese medics. It is located around 140 kilometers
west of Kathmandu in Kalimati, Tanahun, Gandaki Zone, Nepal. This
is an out-patient clinic with its own 7 room building, constructed
with the help of local people and ongoing financial input and fund
raising from the founder, Dr Arjun Pant. Initially, the clinic was
staffed by one doctor, two paramedics and an office assistant. Now
the clinic is run as a charity and provides general medical aid
for the local population (50 to 60,000 people) but is staffed by
only one paramedic and one office assistant. The clinic is well
attended by the local population, and around 10-12 patients come
to the clinic daily for treatment for diarrhoea, dysentery, fever,
scabies, helminthiasis, simple pneumonia, acute peptic disease,
intestinal colic and for wound management.
Goals of the Clinic
The positive relationship between health and the social
economical well-being of a country is well documented. The work of
NIHRSWO is based on this philosopy. NIHRSWO is a non governmental
and non profit organization. It was founded in 1997 with the
following objectives:
- to promote research in health and health care.
- to promote social welfare throughout the kingdom of Nepal by establishing
elderly homes, hospitals, clinic, health care training, literacy classes and
talk program to the schools.
- To promote chock chisapani and its surrounding areas as an eco and village
tourism destination.
- To conduct awareness and income - generating
programmes.
- To help uplift the living standard of different local ethnic groups
together with protecting their cultural heritage.
Funding of the Clinic

founder members. The land was provided by Biswa Upreti, a local social
worker. The bulding was constructed by donatins from Village District of
Chowk Chisapani, PUMA, Dr Arjun Pant, Y. pant, Mr. Ram Chandra Pant
